ABOUT MICROSOFT

 

Microsoft was founded by William H. Gates (Gates) and Paul Allen (Allen) in April 1975. Its first successful operating system was MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System), which the company licensed to IBM for its first personal computer, which debuted in 1981. Gates licensed MS-DOS to IBM but retained the rights to the software. Later, other computer companies also started licensing MS-DOS, as it had no graphical interface and required users only to type in commands in order to open a program.
